Shouvik Chattopadhyay speaking at an academic event

An academic perspective grounded in more than two decades of practice.

I work across supply chain management, operations strategy and interdisciplinary decision systems. My research examines how economic reasoning, analytical methods and emerging digital tools can be applied to consequential operational and societal problems.

Before and alongside academia, I worked across logistics, warehousing, distribution, process improvement and project operations. That experience continues to shape how I structure research questions: theory must illuminate the decision, evidence must withstand scrutiny, and technical sophistication must remain managerially interpretable.

I am an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Engineering & Management, Kolkata, and a doctoral scholar at the University of Engineering & Management.

Five connected domains

Management is the foundation. The questions extend further.

01

Supply Chain, Operations & Strategic Sourcing

Decision frameworks for sourcing, supplier selection, procurement, logistics and operations design.

02

Classroom practice

Teaching decisions, not only definitions.

My teaching focuses on supply chain management, operations strategy, strategic sourcing, procurement, logistics, business ethics and decision frameworks. Courses connect conceptual foundations with cases, operational evidence and the judgement required to act under constraint.

Curriculum development, mentoring and professional training are informed by both academic research and hands-on industry experience.
